With 2025 now wrapped up, it’s a great time to look back on what’s been a huge year for the team. From meeting loads of new people to finally getting our balloon off the ground, there’s been plenty to celebrate.

We kicked off the year by rolling out a brand new recruitment process, which helped us connect with even more students interested in aerospace. That continued at O-Day and the SAE First Year Expo, where we met heaps of new faces from across Curtin.

Getting people involved was a big focus this year. We ran two PIN nights and introduced more than 100 students to the team, bringing together people from all kinds of degrees and backgrounds. These nights were a great way to show what we do and help new members feel part of the team from day one.

On the technical side, we kept pushing forward with our CubeSat subsystems while steadily building towards our High Altitude Balloon mission. Midway through the year, we made the call to move the HAB launch to the end of the year. This gave us the time we needed to finish, integrate and properly test all of our subsystems.

We welcomed new members from Semester 1 onboarding at GM6, followed by another round of recruitment in Semester 2 and more new faces joining us at GM7. As the year wrapped up, all eyes were on HAB. We integrated every subsystem onto the chassis and successfully launched the balloon on 6 December.

We’ll be kicking off again on 5 January, when meetings resume and planning for 2026 begins. A sneak peek into next year includes two exciting missions: HAB02, which will fly CubeSat subsystems alongside the CubeSat payload, and FlatSat, which will focus on ground-based integration and testing.
